Dr. McMorran, Superintendent

A 2013 whitepaper called “The Future of Employment” by Frey and Osborne examined the impact of technology on career pathways.  Their research led them to conclude that 47% of total U.S. employment was at risk of being replaced by smart technology.  Having said that, they didn’t paint a bleak picture.  They wrote, “…while sophisticated algorithms and developments in [mobile robotics], building upon with big data, now allow many non-routine tasks to be automated, occupations that involve complex perception and manipulation tasks, creative intelligence tasks, and social intelligence tasks are unlikely to be substituted by computer capital over the next decade or two” (p. 30).  The future of meaningful employment will continue to lie with those who possess the knowledge, skills and dispositions necessary to work with others in order to solve complex problems in creative ways.

In ER9, we believe in the value of childhood.  We have a mission to help our students develop themselves into self-directed, knowledgeable, skilled critical thinkers, compassionate community members and responsible citizens.  Our purpose is to help children become members of dynamic communities who communicate well, and who use their assets to identify and solve complex problems.

Mission and vision statements tend to be too lofty for most people to connect with them.  Therefore, put more simply, the adults who work in the Easton, Redding, and Region 9 public schools want to nurture our children in a warm, supportive climate as we help them learn.

Said even more simply:  We want to help little human beings enjoy a meaningful journey from pre-school through their first steps into the adult world.

Tom McMorran, Ed.D.
Superintendent, Easton, Redding, Region 9
