Samuel Staples Elementary school is a Higher Order Thinking (H.O.T.) school serving approximately 700 students in Kindergarten through Grade 5. There is a strong emphasis on improving learning in all content areas by integrating the arts into the curriculum. The students are very actively engaged in the program, as evidenced by their willingness to participate in one of the HOT production companies during their recess periods!

Students at Samuel Staples Elementary school are taught to take responsibility for their own learning, and take that responsibility seriously. All students are engaged in the arts, and develop amazing competence in various facets of art, if only in a deeper appreciation of art and music, technology, and dance.

The FOSS science program enables our students to learn science in a very active hands-on manner, and our math program utilizes math manipulatives and technology to engage the students in meaningful learning experiences.

Samuel Staples offers a full-day Kindergarten. The Kindergartners have a full curriculum, including gym, music, art, media, FOSS science units, computer classes, and work with resident artists.

The climate of our school is such that the development of children into caring, responsible citizens is given great emphasis. As students attend a HOT performance and watch the creative efforts of their classmates they are expected to be respectful. In their dealings with others they are expected to be kind, and to treat others as they would like to be treated. Our students frequently perform service projects as they learn to give to others less fortunate than themselves.
