Circulation

  • Kindergarteners are allowed to check out one book at a time and this book may be taken home.
  • Students in grades 1 through 4 are allowed to check out one more book than their grade level (Grade 4= 5 books). At the discretion of the LMC staff, this may be modified for certain projects.
  • Library books may be checked out for 10 school days. They may be returned early or renewed if the book is not in demand. Students must bring the book to the LMC to renew it.
  • There are no overdue charges for library books; however, students are not allowed to check out additional books if they have an overdue book. Overdue notices will be sent to classrooms once a week. If a book is overdue more than 30 days, a bill for its replacement will be mailed home if the book cannot be located and returned.
  • If a book is lost or damaged, students will be asked to pay for the replacement cost (original cost) of the book.
  • Students should carry their books to and from school in a bag or backpack, preferably waterproof.

LMC Literacy
In the LMC, students will learn how to locate fiction books organized alphabetically by author and non-fiction books using the Dewey Decimal System. Students who participate in research will learn how to locate and reference information in books by using the table of contents or index. They will also learn how to use computer databases, reference tools, and search online to access information.

LMC Classes
A specific period or periods will be allotted to each class within the media center schedule. During this period students will exchange their books, read a story, have general library instruction, and/or engage in research. Book circulation will be monitored by the classroom teacher for Grades 3 & 4.

Research
Periodically throughout the course of the school year, intermediate students will complete projects involving research in order to supplement the classroom curriculum, and improve research literacy.
