Overview

This WebQuest was designed to used as part of a grade six weather unit.
Students will decide on a day of fun activities and the best weather possible to allow those activities to happen.
Students will find three cities in the world that might have the type of weather they would need for their planned activities.
Students will then graph a weeks weather from each of those cities and use the graphs to decide where they should have their day of fun.

Introduction

What does the weather for your perfect day look like? Is it hot, cold or somewhere in the middle? Is it sunny, snowing or something else? As a group you will decide on a day of fun activities and the perfect type of weather to allow the activities to happen. Next, your group find a city in world that has weather that closely resembles your definition of perfect weather.

Quest(ions) and the Task

Tasks: Fill out "The Best Weather in the World" worksheet as you complete the tasks below.

First Task In groups of three decide on activities for a day of fun.
Second Task Based on your study of climate, pick three cities in the world that you think will have the weather that you would need to do the activities you picked in step one.
Third Task Research a weeks weather for each of the cities and enter the information in a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet (see example).
Fourth Task Using the information provide in the graphs, pick a city for your day of fun! Write a paragraph explaining your decision.

Process

You will be divided into teams of three. As a group complete tasks one and two and enter the information into "The Best Weather in the World Worksheet." Create the Excel spread sheet for task three and use the spreadsheet to create the graphs for task four. Complete task four by making a final decision about the location of your day of fun and write a paragraph explaining your decision. Be prepared to share your day of fun and findings with the class.
