In
years past, there was a committee of Barlow parents whose purpose
was to foster communication between the Guidance Department and
the Barlow community. The
committee dissolved as those parents' children graduated.
In the Spring of last year, the committee was re-instituted by Jennifer
Ramirez and Anne Kipp of the Guidance Department, and has been meeting
every other month since.
Goals
of the committee are:
- To
encourage communication between the Guidance Department and the
Barlow community of both parents and students.
- To
bring input to the department from the community to assist them
in determining needs.
- To
get information to parents and students of incoming classes including
what programs are available (e.g. Mentoring Program) and to answer
questions about general concerns.)
- To
meet these goals, members of the committee were present at both
of the Freshmen Orientation sessions to answer questions for parents
of incoming freshmen.
In
addition, there has been a great deal of "brainstorming"
to come up with other ways to exchange information. Website
postings, video tours, booklet of frequently asked questions, and
informational coffees are being considered. Members of the committee
include: Chris Ackerman, Mary Brewster, Roseann D'Aureli, Susan
Linstrum, Karen Mazzucco, and Joanne Thompson.
