Specific Treatments for Episodes of Depression and Mania - Mental Health: A Report of the Surgeon General Grade Level:
This section of the Surgeon General's report on mental health (Chapter 4) has a thorough explanation of the different antidepressant medications used to treat the symptoms of episodes of depression and mania. The four major classes of antidepressant medications are explained as well as how the drugs affect humans and treat their major symptom patterns. Also discussed are the factors that influence the selection of a particular antidepressant for any particular patient.
