On March 9th, students enjoyed a revolving day of programs
including:
- Japanese Origami demonstration by Mrs. Connie Will
- A food-tasting session where Mrs. Marion Carlson made Dutch poffertjes
which are dollar-sized pancakes
- A Scottish bagpipe presentation by Mr. Durant McCurley
- A multi-cultural panel featuring Mrs. Nutan Gupta from India, Mrs.
Penelope Papadoulis from Greece and Mrs. Jacqueline May from Scotland
- Amir Rashidd, an Afro-American storyteller who transformed stories from
one culture to another
For the final event on Thursday, March 30, 2000, students and their families
enjoyed a multi-cultural Smorgasbord at the Easton Public Library. This was
funded, in part, by the grants and enhanced by parents preparing either an hors
d’oeurve or dessert of their own culture. Mark Shepard, a multi-disciplinary
performance artist, entertained the group with his repertoire of stories, his
enthusiasm and charm. During the evening, students received a copy of Connecting
Cultures: Sixth Grade Reflections on Their Heritage. And finally, the raffle
drawing was held where students were awarded the prizes donated by our very
generous local business community.
