Programs and Requirements

| Upon completion of each of the
requirements, students will receive the specific number of raffle
tickets from a staff member at either the Easton Public Library or the
HKMS Media Center. Write your name on the ticket and immediately place
it in the Connecting Cultures box at either library. The more
tickets you earn, the more chances you have to win some great prizes!!!!
Prizes will include software, Discman, movie tickets, gift certificates
to local restaurants, Bluefish tickets, and many more……… |

Multi-cultural booklist
(This is a list of books centered
around different cultures. The list is available in both the Easton
Public Library and the HKMS Media Center) |
- Check out book from
pre-selected list from either library.
- Read the book.
- Fill out questionnaire
(available at either library).
- Turn in questionnaire to the
specially marked box in the HKMS Media Center.
- Create a visual:
an advertisement, gossip column,
newspaper article, book jacket, board game or diorama to depict the
theme of your book. |

Logo |
Design a logo depicting the theme,
Connecting Cultures. The Allied Arts Team will judge Logos. |
1 ticket for each entry.
5 tickets for the winning logo. |

Original story
(Stories will be compiled into a
booklet and distributed at the Connecting Cultures Smorgasbord). |
- Write a multi-cultural original
story (no longer than 200 words). The story must be typed and
double-spaced.
- Illustrate your story.

Multicultural Panel (Students will
prepare questions that they can ask of each panelist). Cultures included
are Indian, Russian and Greek. |

Food Demonstration (Students will
assist in preparing a favorite dish of Holland). |

Origami Demonstration (Students
will participate in an origami workshop, a Japanese paper-folding
activity). |

Storyteller (This African-American
gentleman will take one story and share it with the students as it takes
on different meanings in different cultures). |

Music (Bagpipe demonstration
symbolic of the United Kingdom). |

Culminating Event (Multi-cultural
food-tasting event). Parents, students, staff and members of the
community will come together at the Easton Public Library where they
will share in foods of different cultures. Parents will be asked to
prepare culinary samples representative of their ethnic background with
their children in order to encourage parent/child involvement and to
stress the importance of working together on a project. Entertainment
for the evening will be a multi-cultural storyteller and drummer. |

Every Person Has a Story to Tell.
Students will select an object, a person or a special food that has
cultural significance to his or her family and write an essay for
Language Arts. (Essay should be typed, about 200 words and fit on one
piece of paper). Students will be asked to bring in a picture or the
object so we can take digital photos of it to be included in a 6th
grade multicultural booklet. |
