The 7th grade
Language Arts/Reading classes are participating in the 16th
National African American Read-in-Chain. This is an initiative
of the National Council of Teachers of English to make literacy a
significant part of Black History Month. Mrs. Marusa, Ms. Schweikert
and Mrs. Weinshel, along with the staff of the Easton Public
Library, are hosting and coordinating an all-day "Read-In" in the
Helen Keller Media Center. The Easton Public Library will bring its
African-American selections to our school to enhance our collection.
Students will browse through both collections and have an
opportunity to read for at least 30 minutes. Following the silent
reading, students will take an on-line survey using Zoomerang in
which they will reflect on their reading. At the end of the day,
students will be able to sign out the books they began reading.
Students will also receive bookmarks celebrating Black History
Month. This will be an exciting opportunity of collaboration between
HKMS and the Easton Public Library, as well as being a part of a
national program.
Second graders will be treated to an assortment of stories read by
the Easton Public Library staff as well as the staff of the Helen
Keller Media Center. |
