STUDENT ACTIVITIES
Newspaper

The Newspaper Club, a sponsored PTA extracurricular activity, was formed in December, 2001 to gather students who were interested in creating and publishing their own middle school newspaper.  The original membership drive attracted 19 students from all 4 grades.  This  year's membership is up to 50 students.   A vote to the entire student body declared the name of HKMS' Newspaper as The Keller Teller

The Newspaper Club published two editions in its first semester with a successful kick off launching party of the first issue that attracted the media and community members.  The NPC made the news and were featured in the regional newspapers as well on local television.  What and exciting start.  As we go forward the Club with the generous help of parent advisors, has plans to publish two new editions each semester.  The Club will strive to include in each of its publications an interesting and worthy mix of peer related articles, fun facts, entertainment reviews, as well as human interest and community related stories keeping their mission statement at the forefront of their publishing objectives.

The Keller Teller Mission Statement:
"To create a newspaper that is filled with topics that are interesting, informative, fun and will be considered a literary publication of which we will be proud."

Past issues will be posted on the website.  Please look for future editions as they come out.  All questions, comments and feedback is welcomed and can be given directly to a member or dropped into the Keller Teller suggestion box in the Administration Office.

New members are always welcomed.  You don't have to be a great writer.  There are many different roles you can take if you have any interest in contributing to your own middle school newspaper.  And, take it from previous members, its a lot of fun and a great feeling to see your own creation published and read by hundreds of people.  To continue the ongoing success of the Newspaper Club we are always seeking volunteer help from parents as advisors.  This could never be accomplished without parent's help.  It is one of the most joyful things to be part of helping children create their own newspaper and then see it published.  The experience is invaluable and will benefit them tremendously in the future.  If you are interested in helping please leave your name and number in the Administration Office.  Someone from the PTA will contact you.

Keep coming back to our website link for more updates.
Volume 1, Number 1 and Volume 1, Number 2 were published during the school year 2001-2002.  To view either or both of them, request them through the Webmaster.
