One can never consent to creep when one feels an impulse to soar...Helen A. Keller

Math Team

Students broaden their knowledge base as well as improve their problem-solving skills.

Students’ math skills are challenged in meets against area middle schools.

The HKMS Math Team welcomes all 6th, 7th and 8th graders who like to test their wits with a variety of mathematical problems.  Students have a chance to broaden their knowledge base as well as improve their problem-solving skills.  Our team is in Division B of the Fairfield County Junior Mathematics League, and competes with Tomlinson M. S., Fairfield Woods M.S., Ludlowe M.S., Broadview M.S., and Newtown M.S.  Meets are scheduled by the League, and are hosted on five Tuesday afternoons during the year by the various schools in the league.  Part of the fun is going to the meets and seeing all the students from the other division schools.  The enthusiasm is wonderful!

Students are expected to attend the regularly scheduled practice sessions which will be after school.  Students are encouraged, but not required, to participate in the meets.

When the team travels to the off-campus meets, it leaves Keller at 3:20 P.M. and returns at 5:20 P.M..  There are only five meets during the year.  The team relies on parents to provide rides to and from the meets.

If there is interest, other math contests and competitions will be made available to students.

All students are welcome to participate!
