Beginners clinic incorporating the basics of high school (folkstyle) wrestling prior to the winter season at Barlow. Students will learn proper stance, top and bottom positions as well as take downs, reversals, escapes and pinning combinations. Students will also learn about points and rules of the sport of wrestling.

Prior to teaching at the middle school, Mr. Breyer coached the Joel Barlow Wrestling Team and before that he coached Bunnell High School in Stratford. Coach Breyer attended Central Connecticut State University where he wrestled at the collegiate level for the Blue Devils.

Helen Keller has put together an after school field hockey program.  The team is coached by Miss Scrivani and Miss Benedetto.   Miss Scrivani is the 7th and 8th grade Spanish teacher at Helen Keller Middle School.  Miss Benedetto is a language arts teacher at Joel Barlow High School.  The team is open to players of all different abilities.   It is a great opportunity to learn a new sport and get some quality exercise at the same time.  This year the field hockey team will be run as a club sport with occasional scrimmages with John Read Middle School.  We hope that next year it will be transformed into a competitive team.
