DESCRIPTION
The Advanced Mathematics course is an
accelerated course combining grade 6 and grade 7 mathematics. Fifth
grade students are recommended for Advanced Mathematics by their fifth
grade teachers based upon day to day student achievement, consistency of
effort, CMT-5 scores, OLSAT scores, and performance on a placement
test. Students selected for Advanced Mathematics must be able to
demonstrate a superior level of understanding and application of the
fifth grade mathematics curriculum. The course proceeds at a pace
suitable for outstanding students, and requires nightly homework and
review. Each unit begins with a brief review, followed by application,
enrichment, and problem solving. The course includes the same
objectives as grade 6 mathematics, with the following enrichments:
